Claudia Schilling is a German based artist working with analogue and camera-less photographic processes. Her practice is rooted in direct observation of natural transformation, using ice, water, salt, sunlight and environmental conditions to create images without a camera.

Drawn to temporary and often overlooked moments in nature, she works experimentally with light-sensitive materials to capture formations that exist only briefly before disappearing again.

Her works move between photography, abstraction, and material-based image making.

Through series such as States of Water, Schilling works with natural forces rather than controlled compositions. Photographic papers are exposed to changing natural conditions over time. The resulting works preserve temporary states and fragile formations that would otherwise disappear.
